Bear

You look out into the night. You see two shining eyes and a big tongue. It’s Bear. Not A bear, but Bear, my grandfather’s very large, very sweet, very black, very loved Belgian Sheepdog.

I had the privilege to draw this pampered dog for my Paw Paw’s Christmas present, given by his family. Here’s how it turned out:

Omg, I had a beautiful 14 year old Belgian Shepherd named Bear who looked exactly like your grandfather’s Bear. My old boy passed in June of last year from bone marrow cancer. Thank you so much for posting your beautiful drawing. I would love to know what your Bear was like. Mine was an old gentleman, the gentlest soul. I miss him so much. I love your drawing so much. • Thank you for sharing such beautiful thoughts, and I’m so sorry to hear that you lost your Bear. Our Bear loves children and is a “gentle giant.” They can look so imposing, being so big and black, but are so kind and loving! My grandfather adores him, and Bear sits next to his chair and goes everywhere with him. Wishing you well, with plenty of fond memories! -Mary Liz
